  16. ------------
  17. Powerbase is SHAREWARE, not Public Domain software. You are welcome to try
  18. it without charge but, if you find you use it on a regular basis, you should
  19. register with us. The registration fee is £10.00 and should be forwarded to:

  28. Unregistered copies display an explanatory start-up banner for about 5
  29. seconds when they are run. The Info box (iconbar menu) also shows them to be
  30. unregistered.  When you register with us you will receive a registered copy
  31. which displays your name in the Info box and start-up banner. The time for
  32. which the latter remains on screen can be altered by changing the number in
  33. the last line of the Config file inside the Powerbase application directory.
  34. Setting the value to zero suppresses the banner altogether.

  36. Distributing copies of Powerbase
  37. --------------------------------
  38. You are allowed to copy and distribute the application freely as long as you
  39. do not do so for any profit, and that it is kept intact and unchanged APART
  40. FROM THE FOLLOWING: please do NOT give away REGISTERED copies. If you are a
  41. registered user and wish to give a copy to a friend, we ask you to
  42. "de-register" the one you are giving away by Shift/double clicking on the
  43. application to open its directory then deleting the file called "reg". This
  44. results in an unregistered copy.

  46. Manuals
  47. -------
  48. User documentation for Powerbase is supplied as a set of plain text-files
  49. because everybody can read these and print them put if they wish. The same
  50. information can also be had as a Tutotrial  and a manual in Impression
  51. Style/Publisher format. The latter includes an index and table of contents.
  52. We will send these files when you register, but only if you ask for them
  53. since an extra disc is necessary. Users wanting these files at any other
  54. time are asked to send four 1st class stamps to cover the cost of disc and
  55. postage.

  57. We appreciate that many users possess neither Style nor Publisher but might
  58. still like to have these manuals. We can supply them in printed format at a
  59. cost of £4.00 inclusive.

  64. This disc contains five archives:-

  66.         Powerbase        The Powerbase application itself
  67.         Docs            Documentation (inc. Tutorials) in text-file format
  68.         Examples        Example databases (!Friends, !Elements, !Boxes)
  69.         MailMerge       Sample documents to demonstrate mail-merging
  70.         PrintLabel      Label-printing application

  72. Using the files directly from the archives is NOT recommended and usually
  73. results in mysterious error messages. Proceed as follows:-
  74.  
  75.         (a) Run !ArcFS.
  76.         (b) Double-click on an archive to open it.
  77.         (c) Drag the contents of the archive into a suitable directory on
  78.             another floppy or, better still, on a hard disc.
  79.  
  80. The file !Tutorials (in Docs) contains a Quick tutorial for complete
  81. beginners and a slightly more advanced one for more experienced users who
  82. are new to Powerbase. Each tutorial makes used of one of the databases in
  83. Examples: !Friends in the case of the Quick tutorial and !Elements in the
  84. case of the longer one.

  86. Docs also contains a file !Update which briefly describes the most recent
  87. changes to Powerbase.
